BRILLIANT SPRINT

TRANSMITTER SHINES

ELLERSLIE SEMI-FINALS

Transmitter again took the honours over a sprint distance at Ellerslie this morning, when the semi-final gallops by horses engaged at the Auckland Racing Club's Mitchelson Cup meeting on Saturday were recorded. Training was carried out on the course proper with the poles 50ft out, the going being in good order. Running his first furlong in 12s, Transmitter reached the end of half a mile in 49 l-ss. He is a very fit horse. British Camp took 53s and Purple Verroeer 52 2-ss.

Cherry's Ticket was going nicely throughout five furlongs in 1.5 1-5, similar time being recorded by Lady Reynard and Volifox. The last-named got a bit the best of the start, but Lady Reynard was doing the better at the end. Flylite strode over seven furlongs in 1.38 3-5, Landveyor clocking 1.38 1-5 for the last seven furlongs of a mile. Veritable sprinted half a mile in 55 4-5.5, and Charivari, going easily, knocked a second off that time. Golden Pay beat Master Warden at the end of five furlongs in 1.8 2-5, Bronzo and Lord Defoe takihg 1.8 3-5.

Lyallii showed pace by running four furlongs in 51 4-ss, Victory Lass shading Corot and Last Survey at the end of five in 1.5 3-5. Balasniel was in front of Torbay over the same ground In 1.8 3-5 and Lo Zin was better than Unadorned in 1.6 4-5.

Nizam was clear of Lady Ex at the conclusion of six furlongs in 1.19 1-5, Aero King and Camilla taking 1.22 2-5, while Dependable and Bright Fox were together over five in U 2-5.

The two-year-olds Subada, Bosaria and Water Flight, finished in that order at the end of a two-furlongs burst from the mile to the six furlongs post in 25 2-ss. The best gallop after breakfast was recorded by Transcend, which ran five furlongs in 1.3 4-5. The going was a little faster after the Interval, but nevertheless it was a good effort. Embassy left half a mile behind In 52 2-ss, and Anopheles dashed over three furlongs in 38 l-ss. Odtaa had the better of Statue at the end of five furlongs in 1.5 3-5, and over a similar distance Sir Reynard impressed more than Pennywhistle and Naini Tal in 1.6 1-5. There was nothing between Foxlore and Gentry at the conclusion of six furlongs in 1.20, both horses finishing on strongly. Fight On was also sent six furlongs, which he covered in 1.22.

Survey (Fergus) and Hot Shot (Coon) jumped four hurdles, and Bright Idea and Prival were also sent over the same fences.

H. Wiggins, who was severely injured in a race smash at Trentham last season, rode several horses in their work this morning, LATEST ARRIVALS

Indian Sign, Majority and Centrepoise arrived from the South this morning.

SLEEPY FOX IMPRESSES IN FAST , SPRINT

The brilliance of Sleepy Fox was again demonstrated at Takanini this moaning when the Foxbridge gelding comfortably defeated Route March over five furlongs in 1.2 3-5. Even allowing for the fact that Route March is not recognised as a good track worker, the four lengths victory of Sleepy Fox over his rival was very impressive. The galloping was accomplished on the middle grass track, which was in fair order.

Sealaw, which looks all the better for his race at Paeroa. was doing it comfortably alongside Proud Fox at the end of a mile in 1.45 3-5, the first half mile in 525. With the racing he has now had Sealaw may be dangerous in the Mitchelson Cup. Cambria and Cornish finished on terms at the end of six furlongs In 1.16 3-5, while Indian Princess had the measure of Brazen Bold over the same distance in 1.17 3-5. Beau Vaals had Representative doing his best at the end of six furlongs in 1.17, and of the pair Beau Vaals was the more impressive in this gallop. Beau Dink and Yorkish dashed over half a mile in 51 2-ss, a task which Laddie Boy and Egyptian Lady completed in 51 4-ss. Miss Gay and Lovaals were both impressive at a mile in 1.45 3-5, while Minko and Surpai ran five furlongs in 1.5.
