MINERS ACCEPT
COMMITTEE FINDING
MEETINGS AT PITHEADS
((,( '-> HUNTLY, this day. Meetings of miners were held at the various Waikato mines this morning when the decision of the national disputes' committee, appointed to deal with the minimum wage dispute which led to the stoppage ot work at the Pukemiro mine mi September 3. and the later general trouble in ;he Waikato, was read and accepted. The decision was against the miners.
At the I'ukemiro meeting, held at the pithead, the decision to accept the committees finding was carried by a majority of five to one. Before voting the men were addressed by their delegate, Mr. George Lawson, who read the committee's finding, and a recommendation from the Northern Miners' Union that the men accept the decision. The men commenced work at about 9.30.
At the other mines a similar procedure was followed, the disputes' committee's finding being read by the respective delegates. Most of the mines were working by 9 o'clock.
Last, night a meeting of the executive of the Northern Miners' Union was held, and it was decided that a delegate from each mine should take a copy of the decision and also the Union's recommendation to the men.
Mr. T. Hall, secretary of the Miners' Union, stated to-day that in the past disputes' committee decisions have always been accepted.
