German Plane Shot Down In
Raid On Britain
COMPANION'S SUCCESS
Rec. 1.30 p.m. LONDON, Oct. 5. Pilot-Officer Desmond Perrin, of Invercargill, recently added another German plane to the total of over 230 shot down by his squadron, which is Britain's top-scoring day fighter squadron. He and another pilot sighted two enemy aircraft off the coast. The enemy turned inland and started to climb. One jettisoned its bombs.
The enemy split up and PilotOfficer Perrin chased one and his companion the other. He said: "I fired two cannon bursts from 250 yards. Pieces flew from the raider. The third burst set fire to his rudder. The enemy turned on his back and dived vertically. I dived after him, but 'blacked-out' at about 20.000 ft and regained consciousness at about 3000 ft. I searched the sea for traces, but did not see any."
His companion shot, down his quarry, which crashed on lire.
