CHAPLAIN'S TRIBUTE
Y.M.C.A. MEN IN DESERT
I have just returned from the desert after being five weeks with the troops. Wherever I went I saw Y.M.C.A. men with loaded trucks and canteens taking supplies to soldiers in every part of the field," writes Rev. J. W. McKenzie, of Auckland, senior chaplain to the forces, Middle East, in correspondence with Mr. H. W. Shove Y.M.C.A. Commissioner.
"You might be interested to hear a chaplain's opinion of your work and workers, so here is mine. The organisation of the work and the distribution of supplies could hardly have been better. The abundance of supplies, the regularity and liberality of their distribution surprised and pleased me. Few men work harder or face more dangers on the battle field than a travelling Y.M.C.A. man. I personally thank you for frequent loads of stuff for free distribution in the El Alamein campaign."
