FINE WEEK-END
CROWDS FLOCK OUTDOORS
The glorious weather during the week-end caused Aucklanders to nock outdoors to beaches, sports fixtures and gardens. There were some swimmers at the beaches, but the majority of people contented themselves with sun-bathing. More cars than usual were seen on the roads the monthly ration of benzine being available at the week-end. The resumption of a direct bus service between the city and the eastern marine suburbs made it possible for a large number of people to visit those beaches. The ferries also carried many passengers across the harbour.
Numerous bowling, tennis and croquet clubs held their official openings on Saturday, the fine weather auguring well for their season.
