ERRORS APLENTY
FARCICAL STEEPLECHASE The running of the Maramarua Steeplechase at Paeroa was a chapter of accidents, mistakes being made by all but two of the field, Rose was first to fall, and he caused Mia Acrea to run off. A little later Glen Abb was pulled up, and, with a lap to go, Gold Spot was out in front. Gold Spot then fell, and Red Falcon was so far in front that, bar accidents, he had the race won. But Instead of going on to the course proper and finishing down the straight, W. Pascoe, on Red Falcon, continued on the inside, perhaps thinking there was another round to go. Only Floodlight and Kena were then left In the race, and Floodlight cantered along to the finish, a dozen lengths in front of Kena. Gold Spot, which had been remounted by a spectator, came along a couple of minutes later to finish third, and was followed by Red Falcon, which had been taken back and set on the right course. After the race it was held that Gold Spot had missed a fence and he was distanced, third place being awarded to Red Falcon. Pascoe, rider of Red Falcon, was fined 12 for carelessness.
