NOT YET FORMED

MANPOWER POOL MILITARY CRITICISED Although representations had been made to the military authorities, nothing had been done in connection with the formation of a pool of lower grade men who could be released from camp to take the place in industry of higher grade men called up for service, said Mr. R. C. Clark, chairman of the Auckland District Council of Primary Production, at a meeting of the council this morning.

The chairman said that several councils were feeling more concerned over the matter than even the Auckland council. Lieutenant Hart, representing the military authorities, had told him that there were a great number of difficulties in regard to the proposal. Lieutenant Hart pointed out, however, that at first it was thought that the councils were asking for several hundred men, and added that something would shortly be done in the matter.

Mr. H. O. Mellsop said he considered that a pool of 25 men in each district should be sufficient to meet the position.

The council carried a resolution, moved by the chairman, regretting the delay on the part of the military authorities in establishing area pools of suitable second and third grade men whose services might be available in primary production to replace essential men called up for service.
