MT. RICHMOND CRASH
FULL REPORT BY BOARD (P.A.) CHRISTCHI'RCH. Sunday. The full report of the Board of Inquiry, comprising Mr. W. F. Stilwell, S.M., Squadron-Leader G. B. Bolt and Commander O. Garden, which investigated the fatal crash of the Union Airways Lockheed passenger plane ZK—AFE at Mount Richmond, Nelson, on May 7, now released, makes available views and comments of the board additional to those contained in the summary previously issued to the Press by the Minister of Defence.
The board criticised the organisation of the direction-finding station at Nelson as "most unsatisfactory," and expressed the opinion that no approach system would be satisfactory or safe until a single control was introduced, and that, in its opinion, would be most efficiently carried out by a trained civil staff to handle both civil and air force aircraft.
