ONCE A WEEK
DELIVERY OF GROCERIES
A delivery once a week to customers in the cities and boroughs, including built-up areas adjacent to their boundaries, of parcels only exceeding 81b in weight or three cubic feet in bulk is one of the recommendations submitted by the Master Grocers' Federation to the Commissioner of Transport, Mr. G. L. Laurenson.
In the case of country deliveries it is proposed that no storekeeper shall deliver to any point exceeding a five miles radius from his shop if such point is beyond the shortest distance from any other storekeeper who is able and willing "to supply the consumer so situated. It is proposed that country deliveries also should be restricted to one a week, except in cases where bread comprises a substantial portion of the business. Two weekly deliveries would be permitted in such instances.
These proposals await the approval of the Minister of Transport, Mr. Semple, and, if endorsed, will come into operation immediately. It is intended that they should applv until June 30 next to all forms of conveyance, and, in addition to the restrictions proposed, all existing petrol licenses are expected to be reviewed.
