LETTUCE MORE PLENTIFUL Supplies of cabbage were fair with a firm demand at the city markets to-day. Supplied of parsnips were heavier, most lines selling to Government maximum prices, and supplies of lettuce heavier, with prices lower. Asparagus is now in heavy supply with demand firm, and cauliflowers are in keen demand at firm prices. Fruit. —Tree tomatoes brought high prices near the close of the season. A fair demand ruled for grapefruit. A small shipment of pineapples was distributed at the markets and sold at maximum Government, fixed price. There was a keen demand for ripe bananas, selling to maximum rates. Eggs. Farmers' Butter, Cut Flowers. —Eggs: Hen, standard grade. 1 B'2 per dozen; duck, standard grade. 1.8*2 per dozen. No change in the price of eggs to-day. Farmers' butter, 1 2 per lb. Cut Flowers.—Fair supply of flowers offering today with good demand for choice lines. Apples.—Granny Smith. 12 6 to 16 per case: Delicious. 14 to 16 ; Sturmer. 11,6 to 14 6; Dougherty, 13 6 to 15'. Pears: P. Barry. 20 per case. Tomatoes: Hothouse. 2 6 to 3 6 per case. Bananas: Repacked, ripe. 32-' oer case. Pineapples: Queensland, 35 per case. Tree tomatoes: New Black. 18.' to 31 per case: Yellow. 22 to 24' per case. Marmalade oranges. 5 to B'. Grapefruit: New Zealand, large choice. 14. to 18 : small and others. 8' to 12'. Vegetables.—Asparagus. 1 to 16 per bundle. Beet. 4 6 to 7 ' case. 16 to 2 3 per dozen. Spinach. 5/ to 8/ per case. Spring onions, 1/3 to 2/3 per bundle. Swedes. 4/ W 6 per bag. Turnips, up to 12/ per cwt. sprouts, 8d to 1/ per lb. Poultry.—At to-days auctions the supply 01 poultry was heavy and the demand was fair. The prices paid remain the same. Selling rates were as follow:—Cockerels, heavy oreeds, prime. 7/ to 8/ each; not prime. 4/ to 6/ each; light breeds, prime. 5/ to 6/ each; not prime, 3 6 to 5/ each. Fat hens, heavy breeds. 6/6 to 8/ each; light breeds. 4 6 to 6/ each. Pullets, heavy breeds, best, 5/ to 10/ each; smaller. 4/ to 7 6 each; light breeds, best. 6/ to 8' each; smaller. 5/ up.
