TAXI SERVICES
APPLICATIONS FROM WOMEN Taxi-drivers generally and women taxi-drivers in particular were the subject of a brief discussion at last night's meeting of the Auckland City Council. The question arose when the town clerk, Mr. J. Melling, reported that a conference of local bodies in the metropolitan area had resolved that taxi-drivers licenses should not be Issued to women until it had been proved that men were not available for the work'. When it was moved that the conference resolution be adopted, several councillors objected, stating that there should not be discrimination against women drivers.
