Bombs Dropped at Midday Through Gap in Clouds

BOMBER FIGHTS WAY BACK

Rec. 2 p.m. RUGBY, Aug. 23. Just after midday to-day two Wellington bombers attacked the port of Emden, coming down to 4000 feet they bombed through a gap in the clouds. Bursts were seen, among buildings in the dock area. On the way back one Wellington was attacked nine times by Messerschmitt 109's. During the last attack the Wellington's rear-gunner got in a long bußSt of fire and fragments were blown off the Messerschmitt.
