SHIPPING PLANS
AUSTRALIAN EXPANSION
Special Australian Correspondent Rec. 1.30 p.m. SYDNEY, this day. The need for a powerful and balanced fighting force to enable Australia to overcome any enemy was again emphasised by the Prime Minister, Mr. Curtin, at the launching of a naval vessel at an Australian dockyard. Australia was predominantly responsible for its own defence and security, he said. More planes, as well as more ships, were wanted. The New South Wales Government is pushing engineering and shipbuilding works to completion. The plans provide space for four shipbuilding berths, two of which will take vessels up to 600 feet in length.
