ICE CREAM SUPPLY
EFFECT OF RATIONING
The consumption of ice cream by Aucklanders in the summer months is considerably above the avera/?* 1 for the rest of New Zealand. This year, if the coming summer is a good one. the public will have to restrict themselves as regards their daily allowance for New Zealand ice cream.
Manufacturers have been allowed for this season only 50 per cent or the sugar they used in the manufacture of last season's supply. An Auckland ice cream manufacturer stated this morning that stocks of sugar not used in the winter could be allowed to accumulate for use in the summer, but this yearthere had been an unprecedented winter demand for ice cream.. This was due to the unusual amount of ice cream consumed by soldiers and the heavy demands also made by the general public.
