A strong force of R.A.F. bombers last night attacked industrial districts in the Ruhr and also bombed the docks at Dieppe and enemy airfields in the Low Countries. Fighter Command planes on intruder operations attacked airfields and railway objectives in northern France and Holland. Eighteen bombers are missing from these operations, says the Air Min ist ry com mu n iq ue. Effective raids were again carried out last night by intruder pilots who, after flying through intense antiaircraft fire, again attacked airfields. goods trains and other targets over a wide area in northern France and Holland, says another message. An ammunition dump at the Schipol aerodrome, in Holland, was destroyed and railway yards were also among the targets bombed. The R.A.F. was over enemy territory last night. A German twin-engined float-plane cn shipping reconnaissance off the north-east of Scotland was intercepted last night by a Beaufighter, which sighted the floatplane at 500 ft and at once attacked with both cannon and machine-guns. The Beaufighter swept round for a frontal attack. and the floatplane dropped lower and lower, and finally rolled over on its back and crashed into the sea. Three of the crew clambered <n to the fuselage, but the wreckage sank in a few minutes. The Beaufighter was undamaged. Machine-gun and cannon fire from a small formation of Spitfires blew up and sank a German "R" boat (motor minesweeper) off the coast of Holland this afternoon. The crews of fishing boats in the vicinty waved to the Spitfire pilots as they flew in low to the attack, says the Air Ministry news service. " There was no return of fire from the "R" boat, and all the aircraft returned safely.
