RACING CONFERENCE

Proposed Amendments To Rules

CONSIDERATION NEXT MONTH

The executive of the Racing Conference favoured another skeleton conference this >ear, and Ijas not brought forward any remits, but Hawke's Bay, Taranaki and Wanganui Clubs have given notice of proposals to amend the rules. The Hawke's Bay District Committee is sponsoring a conference remit which proposes that in races for gentlemen Meiers only, emergency riders' certificates may be issued if the stewards are satisfied that there are not sufficient licensed gentlemen riders on the course. A proviso is added that such certificates should be issued only to a person who, in the opinion of the stipendiary steward, would qualify for a gentleman rider's license. One of the remits to conference proposed by the Hawke's Bay Jockey Club suggests an alteration of the method of computing place dividends. At present, '/ there is a dead-heat for third, each dead-heater is allotted a share of the pool equal to that of the first and second horses, the amount available for dividends being split Into four portions. It is suggested that in future dead-heaters for third should be treated as one horse, and each allotted one-sixth of the pool. On a previous occasion a similar proposal received scant consideration by delegates, but it is equitable and one day will be adopted. The conference will be held in Wellington early next month.
