MR. JAMES NEWELL.
Mr. Newell joined the Colonial Sugar Company in 1890, rising to the position of accountant in Auckland. He became manager of the Auckland branch some time before his retirement in 1930. On retiring, he was made a member of the local advisory board of the company. When he was younger, Mr. Newell was a keen footballer, playing in the senior grade, and he also had been a member of the Ponsonby, Devonport and Auckland Bowling Clubs. He is survived by his wife and one son.
