With the loss of the richest tin fields in the world when Malaya fell into Japanese hands, Britain has turned to the Cornish tin mines. In Cornwall tin ore is found in granite strata at deep levels of from 1700 ft to 1800 ft, and has to be blasted out of solid rock. Before the Malayan mines were opened Cornwall was the world's main source of tin. Miners are seen working a campressed air drill at the East Pool mine.
