STIFF RESISTANCE
CHINESE IX CHEKIAXG (Rec. 2 p.m.) LONDON, June 8 The Chungking high command declared that fighting is continuing in the outskirts of Chuhsien. in the Chekiang province. The Chinese are stiffly resisting the Japanese drive to close in on the Chekiang battlefront from the Kiangsi province westward. Fuchow has fallen and the Japanese have occupied the Chuhsien airfield said a communique from Chunking earlier. The Japanese who penetrated the outskirts of Chuhsien suffered heavv casualties, says a Chungking dispatch. Fighting is raging with increasing ferocity and the besieged Chinese garrison is still holding out inside Chuhsien's ancient walls. The Japanese force advancing eastward from Nanchang is attacking Tungsianjj, 75 miles to the south-east. Heavy fighting is reported on a new front in Inner Mongolia, 340 miles west of Peiping. Japanese planes ranged over the Chinese front line and rear positions on all fronts.
