RAIDS ON BURMA
First Daylight Attack By U.S. Bombers On Rangoon BRITISH OVER AKYAB (Rec. 2 p.m.) LONDON, June 8 United Slates bombers have made their first daylight attack on Rangoon, says a disptach from New Delhi. Despite monsoon conditions, heavy anti-aircraft fre and Japanese fighters, the attack was pressed home. The R.A.F. again atta-ked Akyab yesterday. Planes bo bed and machine-gunned a merchantman from a low level, and a je'ty was probably hit. Rain obscured observation. Other bombers attacked Homalin, on the Burma side of the frontier, from a low level.
A radio message from Bangkok claims the Siamese troops in Burma have occupied Yeu, says a message from Berlin.
A Japanese troop concentration on the Chindwin River, near the frontiers of India, was attacked by the Royal Air Force, says an air communique from New Delhi, reported by the British official wireless. All the bombs fell on the target area. In a Royal Air Force operation against Akyab a merchant vessel was attacked. Some river craft in the same area were attacked at a low level. One British plane failed to return.
