N.Z.'S MANPOWER
DISCUSSION PENDING
PREPARATION OF REPORT
(By Telegraph.—Parliamentary Reporter.)
WELLINGTON, this day
A desire to discuss the New Zealand manpower position has been expressed by several members of the House of Representatives and it was evident from the remarks of the Prime Minister, Mr. Fraser, last ni .g"t that the opportunitv to do so win be given. It was also disclosed that an official report on the subject is being prepared, Mr. Fraser remarking that when its contents were available for perusal it could be decided how the matter could be debated, whether in an open session or in a secret sitting. The subject might, he suggested, be taken during the financial debate as a separate matter.
The Speaker of the House, Mr. Barnard, in making some references to the difficulty caused by members wishing to mention matters which it might not be advisable to broadcast, added: "If members would recall the listening ear of Tokyo and give me a hint in advance that they were about to say something they would not iike the Japanese to hear it would lighten my task and enable me to carry out an onerous duty "
