CRUSHED TO DEATH
FATE OF P.W.D. LINESMAN
FALL OF STEEL GIRDER
(P.A.) WELLINGTON, this day A Public Works Department linesman, Mr. Ronald Kohika, was crushed to death when a steel girder, weighing over a ton, fell at the Pahautanui sub-station during the week-end. The girder which was being erected to carry some electrical equipment, slipped and pinned Mr. Kohika underneath. A doctor was summoned, but death must have been instantaneous. A formal verdict in accordance with the medical evidence was returned by the coroner at the inquest.
