MAKE IT IN NEW ZEALAND
At the present juncture, after searching Auckland for days, brandy or whisky is unprocurable in bottles or half-bottles. I feel assured that, the medical faculty will support me when I state that in diabetes in elderly persons either of these sugarfree spirits are very necessary. We grow lovely grapes, barley and rj r e: ergo, we can distil fine brandy or whisky in New Zealand. For distillation, the machinery, metals, glass and barrels (for maturing) can all be ■made here. After maturing, the New Zealand wine develops magnificent "ethers,' , therefore our own whisky and brandy will equal that of South Australia (which is quite good), but alas! now unprocurable It is the imperative duty of this Government to sanction the establishment of one or more distilleries. If solely for medical usage. Smart as they are for getting profits out of everything, the Government could run it themselves and license chemists to suppry spirits, on doctors' orders.
