Beverley, A Winter Prospect, Resumes Work

Looking in first-rate condition as the result of a spell during the last couple of months. Beverley has been recommissioned by Geo Jenkins. This trainer will prepare the Lord Warden gelding for winter racing. When tried over steeplechase fences Beverley won a minor event, but c'isplayed much improved form later over hurdles. He ■won the Tiri Hurdle race at Kllerslie in November and •annexed a double at the Auckland midsummer meeting in January, his actual winnings being over £800. There will be plenty of jumping events to suit Beverley during the winter season, and he should extend his record. DISLIKES HARD GROI'M) It is doubtful if Silver Quex was ever better conditioned than she is at present, but she does not relish the hard ground. If rain falls before the Ohinemuri meeting it is intended to race the Lord Quex mare in the chief handicap event at that fixture. Her third in the Christmas Handicap, one mile, and her second to Salutation in the Glasgow Handicap, seven furlongs, at the Auckland summer meeting: were sound performances, and she appears as a likely winner when the going becomes easier. HAS MADE GOOD That smart galloper Cherry's Ticket has not been overtaxed of late, but will be ready to race as soon as required. She is one of most improved fillies at Kllerslie, and more money looks assured for her within the next few months. The daughter of Croupier and Ticket claims an engagement In the Great Northern Oaks. and. it will be Interesting to see how she acquits herself in the mile and a half contest. WON AT LAST BTABT As the result of his impressive win in the two-year-old event at the Te Aroha meeting there will be plenty of support for Travancore the next time he faces the starter. He will probably compete against the top-flight youngsters in the Great. Northern Champagne Stakes at the Auckland Easter meeting. It would not surprise to see the son of Bulandshar and Tea Tattle running prominently in that event. HURDLER TO RESUME The hurdler Hot Shot has been taken up again after an enforced spell extending over several months. He is in great order to commence a serious preparation, and. having previously won over the battens, will be a welcome addition to the Jumping brigade at headquarters. SPRINTER MEETS TROUBLE That fine sprinter LlandafT was in a bad way after racing at the Te Aroha meeting. He was galloped on while contesting the sprint race and also met with injuries during transit from the meeting. Llandaff is now back at his old quarters and is being treated for his Injuries by his owner. Mr. A. D. Potter, who has made a good recovery from a recent operation. WILL SOON BE READY Since resuming regular work some weeks ago. Night Pilot has not been set any strenuous tasks. Most of his work is being done on the tan track, where he Is hitting out in a style that suggests that he will soon be ready to sport silk again. Night Pilot's second to Cornish in the Nathan Memorial Handicap on the final day of the Auckland summer meeting was very encouraging, but unfortunately he went sore shortly afterwards and had to be eased up. More is likely to be heard of Night Pilot before the present racing season is concluded. BRIGHTON HURDLES CANDIDATE Although Melvanui has no immediate engagements, little fault can be found with his condition. Of late the brown geldln* has not been required to do any schooling over hurdles owing to the hard ground, but being a proficient Jumper he will not suffer on that account. Melvanui Is due to make his next appearance In the Brighton Hurdle race to be run at Ellcrslie on April 4. ANSWER TO CORRESPONDENT CONSTANT HEADER—No.
