BELOW BRITISH QUOTA

DOMINION'S CHEESE OUTPUT

(0.C.) WHANGAREI, this day. The Minister of Agriculture, Mr. Barclay, said at Whangarei on Saturday night that the latest estimate for cheese production in New Zealand for the season was 154,000 tons. Britain had asked for 160,000 tons, but the season had been a poor one for production, so that the figure of 154,000 tons had to be considered satisfactory.

"Every ton of butter turned into cheese reduces the liability of this country," he said, adding that there would probably be a considerable carry-over of butter this season, and this would be the liability of the Government after it had been two months in store.
