STRUCK BY HAMMER
—' ' ■ • SPORTS FIELD FATALITY (P.A.) DUNEDIN, Sunday. While acting as an official at Otago athletic championships at the Caledonian Ground on Saturday, Mr. Charles W. Frye was struck with a hammer thrown by a competitor in a hammer-throwing event. Mr. Frye was admitted to hospital with severe face and head injuries and died at 11.50 p.m.
Mr. Frye was formerly a prominent cross-country runner and won the New Zealand title in 1920.
