DOCTORS' REACTION
MINISTER PLEASED
SOCIAL SECURITY SCHEME
(P.A.) WELLINGTON, this day.
Referring to the progress made in the general medical services scheme since its introduction on November 1, the Minister of Health, Mr. Nordmeyer, stated that the latest available returns from the district offices of health showed that more than half the doctors in practice were either claiming direct on the Social Security Fund or were accepting, in full settlement of their accounts, the amounts set out in the Social Security Amendment Act.
The numbers, said Mr. Nordmeyer, varied in different health districts from 15 to 72 per cent, though most districts showed an average of 50 per cent. He added that it was particularly gratifying that an increasing number of- doctors were making direct claims on the fund.
LODGE DOCTORS
FEES FOR MEDICAL MEN
The board of management of the Auckland United Friendly Societies Medical Institute has advised secretaries of lodges that arrangements have been made with a number of lodge doctors for a medical service for members on a basis of 7/6 for ordinary visits and 12/6 for night or Sunday calls. The fees, it is stated, will be collected from the Health Department and paid to the doctors and as opportunity offers additional medical men will be added to the list.
"Should members consult doctors outside of the list they may be required to pay full fees and obliged to collect any refunds themselves," adds the circular.
