CHRISTMAS SERVICES

Church observances

Special Christmas services will be held in churches to-morrow, Christmas Day. Communion will be celebrated hourly in many of the Anglican churches, arid in St. Matthew's Church there will be matins and Holy Communion at 11 a.m., when Archbishop Averill will be the preacher.

Owing to the blackout the usual midnight Mass on Christmas Eve at St. Patrick's Cathedral will not be held, but Mass will be celebrated at .6 a.m. on Christmas Day. At 11 a.m. Pontifical Solemn Mass will be celebrated by Bishop Liston, who will be the preacher. Suburban Roman Catholic churches will also celebrate early morning Mass.

Congregations of the Baptist Tabernacle, Beresford Congregational Church, Pitt Street Methodist Church and St. James' Presbyterian Church will hold a united Christmas service at 10 a.m. They will meet in the Beresford Street Church.

Many Presbyterian churches, including St. David's and St. Andrew's, will hold special services at 10 a.m. A service of praise and thanksgiving will be held by the Auckland Wayside Mission at 7 p.m.
