PROTECTING SHIPPING
FURTHER REGULATIONS. (P.A.) WELLINGTON, Tuesday. The principal provision in amendments to the Shipping Safety Emergency Regulations, gazetted to-night, gives the police authority to mount guard at gangways of ships in port ih addition to or in place of ships' guards, who up to the present have been on duty on shipg at wharves since the outbreak of war. Further restrictions contained in the regulations relate to movements of small craft, giving the authorities power to prevent or prohibit small craft going to or being in any place should the authorities deem it expedient to do so, with a view to securing the public safety, defence of New Zealand or efficient prosecution of the war.
