PHONE SHORTAGE
N O MORE IN ST AIiLiATION S WELLINGTON, Monday. The "Postmaster - General, Mr. Webb, announced to-day that owing to the serious shortage of supplies of telephone material and the necessity for conserving all available equipment to meet any emergency that might arise, it will not be possible to install any further telephones in the meantime, either in business or residential premises, unless they are essential to the State in the present emergencies. The Minister stated that circumstances were such as to render this action absolutely essential in the public interest. The restrictions would be lifted as soon as conditions permitted.
