RALWAYMEN PROTEST
COST OF LIVING QUESTION
Dissatisfaction with the findings of the Arbitration Court concerning the cost of living was expressed at a meeting of the executive committees of local railway organisations over the week-end. Mr. J. Shepherd presided. The following resolution was carried unanimously:— "That this meeting of the whole personnel of the local executives of the four railway service organisations is thoroughly disappointed with the majority decision of the Arbitration Court on the cost of living investigations.
We entirely agree that the war situation is serious, many of us having relatives an active servic" but we are also aware of the serious unrest among the rank and file of the railway service owing to their inability to meet their legitimate commitments.
We therefore express our indignation and dissatisfaction on behalf of approximately 3000 local railway employees whom we represent and reaffirm our previous demand *or an increase of not less than 6d per hour and request our national executives to press for this demand."
