RETURNED TO WORK

GIRLS AT WESTFIELD

INCREASE IN WAGES

A satisfactory settlement of their dispute having been arrived at, the 50 women and girls employed in the casing calibrating department at the Westfield Freezing Co., Ltd.'s Westfield works, who stopped work on Friday morning, demanding a 5/ weekly increase in wages, returned to the job this morning.

It is understood that negotiations between the management, Mr. W. E. Sill, secretary of the Auckland Freezing Workers' Union, of which the girls are members, and the employees' delegates resulted in the workers being granted an increase in wages, but not as much as was requested.

The girls are engaged in the work -of measuring sausage casings, and prior to the dispute were paid up to a £3 minimum weekly. When asked to comment on the position of the girls as it now stands, neither a representative of the company nor Mr. Sill would say anything beyond reporting that the whole thing had been satisfactorily settled.
