TO SOUTH POLE
BYRD EXPEDITION V.C. WINNER WAS MEMBER (P A.) GREYMOUTH, this day. Sergeant Hinton was employed in the Public Works workshops at Greymouth for several, years prior to the war. He was a member of Rear-Admiral Byrd's South Pole expedition several years ago. His was the 22nd enlistment at Greymouth. Sergeant Hinton played senior Rugby with the United Club at Greymouth.
