SURPRISE MOVE
E.P.S. TRANSPORT WORKj I TRANSFER TO HOME GUARD (P.A.) DUNEDIN, this day. Speaking at the annual meeting of the Automobile Association last evening the Mayor, Mr. A. H. Allen, expressed surprise at reading that the transport work of the Emergency Precautions Scheme Organisation was to be taken over by the Home Guard. He said he could not imagine any Government Department offering such a slight to the controllers as to publish such a decision without first discussing it,
or at least giving notice to make the] change. It was a slight on those j who had worked so hard for three] years, and also to the city corporation, which had gone to much j expense. j Mr. Allen remarked later that one impediment to the work of the section had been Government dilatoriness in supplying facilities.
