MAYORAL VISIT

TRANSPORT CORPS

PRESENTATION TO OFFICER

The Red Cross Transport Corps was inspected by the Mayor, Mr. J. A. C. Allum, and Mayoress, Mrs. Allum, on Saturday afternoon, when the weekly parade was held at the Drill Hall, Rutland Street. The commandant, Mr. F. V. Home, and the assistantcommandant, Mrs. John Pater son, met the official party, who included Mr. G. Thacker Paterson, chairman of the executive of the Red Cross Society, Mrs. H. Corbett and Mrs. F. C. Webster, executive members, Mr. A. A. Harker, secretary, Captain Munro, from the Artillery Training Regiment, Papakura, and Major and Mrs. Blackett.

A demonstration of stretcher drill was given by members of the corps, after which they went for a short route march, while Mr. Allum took the salute. At the conclusion of the parade, the Mayor spoke highly

of the valuable work done by the corps in the voluntary transport of sick and wounded soldiers and hospital patients. The demonstration of stretcher drill was, he considered, a wonderful example to other voluntary organisations.

Mr. Home made a presentation of a silver salver on behalf of the corps to Mrs. Paterson, who is resigning her position as assistantcommandant of the corps, owing to the fact that she is leaving shortly for Wellington. Mr. Thacker Paterson, adding his tribute to that of Mr. Home, said that Mrs. Paterson's organising ability had contributed to the present efficiency of the corps. A small presentation on behalf of the members was also made by Mrs. Home to Mr. John Paterson, who had assisted the corps in many ways. Members of the corps attended church parade at St. Matthew's Church yesterday morning.
