TO SPEED UP
PARLIAMENT'S PROGRAMME MAY LENGTHEN* SITTINGS (By Telegraph.—Parliamentary Reporter.) WELLINGTON, this day. The easy pace of Parliament during the last few weeks is likely to be changed after the return of the Prime Minister, Mr. Fraser, from his tour abroad. Business is piling up. The Order Paper includes two important measures, both of a controversial character. These are the Social Security Amendment Bill relating to a general practitioner service, and the Soil Conservation and Rivers Control Bill. There is also a promise of some further legislation, including a war damages bill, embodying a scheme of compensation for damage to property in New Zealand caused by enemy action, and a repatriation bill.
There is general agreement in Parliamentary circles that the Government will make evecy endeavour to conclude the session bv the end of the present month. ft is likelv, therefore, that the House, following Mr. Fraser's return, will revert to the usual four sitting days weeklv, and that towards the end of the month Monday sittings will be necessary to complete the legislative programme.
