COMPLAINTS MADE

OFFICIAL ADVICE SLOW

SOLDIERS AS PRISONERS

Complaints as to delays by Base Records in confirming whether men listed as "believed to be prisoners of war" are in fact prisoners of war have been made several relatives during the past few days. They state that after waiting for official advice for as long as two months they were able to obtain the information by sending prepaid cablegrams to the International Red Cross at Geneva.

By spending £2 7/9 on a cablegram which she sent to the International Red Cross Committee, Palais du Consul-General, Geneva, an Auckland woman was advised 10 days later that her son was safe and well as a prisoner of war at a camp in Greece, whereas she had waited for over two months for official confirmation of advice that he was believed to be a prisoner of war. The woman m.ntioned that she knew of other people who had followed the same course with satisfactory results.
