FORESTRY DEPARTMENT'S YEAR (By Telegraph.—Parliamentary Reporter.) WELLINGTON, this day. "Preparatory pians for the rehabilitation of ex-servicemen have received close attention and much preliminary work has been done in collaboration with other State Departments," says the report of the Director of Forestry for the year ended March 31, which was presented in the House to-day.

Exports of timber for the year increased by over 4,000,000 board feet and £43,000 in value, the total being 17,408,000 board feet worth £195,400. There was a sharp decline in timber imports, the total at December 31, 1940, being 15,000,000 board feet worth £298,600, the quantity being a little over one-third of that for the previous year. The quantity, of timber sold was 94,134,000 board feet, a substantial increase.

Timber produced from State forests was about 112,500,000 board feet, and from all sources the cut was expected to aggregate 340,000,000 board feet.

"The area under the control of the State forest service is now 8,762,000 acres, of which 6,676,700 acres are permanently reserved," the report adds. "The net increase for the year was 311,548 acres."
