Young Digger's Unselfishness

A touching example of the true spirit of unselfishness and thought for others stimulated by the hardships of service overseas and the close contact with the sufferings of victims of the ruthless monster of | war, comes to hand in a letter from a Digger, aged 22. j-oung in j'ears but old in experience, who succeeded in returning to Egypt after seeing service with the Long Distance Desert Group, and passing through , the hurricane of Greece and the inferno of Crete. In a letter to his Rarents, who reside in Wnangarei, e stated:—"To-day I received a, letter from the bank advising of the, bonus at March, that I have over) £200 doing nothing there. Fancy me; with all that money! I just realise i how selfish I am, so here's an order for you, and I mean it, and please, dears, do it for me and don't argue. Write out two cheques for me, each for £10. and post them to some charitable institution. Now don't argue, just do it, and you'll make me so happy. It's winter now and there's always someone cold, and now I know every feeling a cold or a hungry or a frightened or lonely person can feel. Fancy, what lessons war teaches. Yes, really, we've all suffered that—can't realise it, but it is true. Just use any of that monev for good work. It's no good to me'and plenty more where it came from. I look for a report on this— so there!"
