FOOTWEAR SCHOOL

TRAINING LIMITATIONS

The statement that it was impossible to train efficiently a man in three to four months to replace a journeyman who has had at least five years and possibly a longer period of apprenticeship, was made by the secretary of a firm of footwear manufacturers during the hearing of an appeal before the No. 1 Armed Forces Appeal Board this morning, when he was asked his opinion of the Government's new boot operatives' training school. While students could Decome more proficient in some branches of the work than in others during that time, he did not think that, generally speaking, efficient workers could be turned out during this period of training. He said there was a certain degree of antagonism by those employed in the industry to the project, which he regarded at the present as only in the experimental stage.
