Thames Girls' Club. —At the Druids' Clubroom, Newton, members and friends of the Thames Girl's Club (inc.) were entertained bv Miss Spieer, who displayed her New Zealand period costumes. Mrs. L. Snowling arranged the musical programme, and the president, Mrs. 11. Stubbing, read a poem on our boys overseas. v __ * * * ♦ Pemvomen's Club. — A colourful and interesting pageant of Shakespearean characters, in costume, organised and directed by the president Mrs. Helen Griffiths, was presented before a large and appreciative audience at the Pen women s Club on Friday afternoon. Over 30 performers took part in the pageant, which was preceded by a prelude of Shakespearean songs, i * * * * Backward Children Institute. — The annual meeting of the Institute for the Care of Backward Children was held in the school. Belgium Street. Good progress in all activities was reported, the most important innovation being the inauguration of a new transport system for the children. The officers elected for the year are as follows: —President, Miss B. Carnachan; vice-presi-dent, Mrs. S. E. Kennings; hon. secretary, Miss F. Waddingham; hon. treasurer, Mrs. J. C. Gulliver; committee, Mesdames J. W. Hollis, R. E. Dowding. J. G. Hopkins, Misses E. Goldsworthy, K. Kennedy, R. Mahon. N. Martin and M. Muir.
