TE AROHA SUGGESTION A suggestion from Te Aroha that individual localities should be permitted to make an appeal for funds to be administered locally to relieve urgent cases of hardship among returned soldiers was considered ,by the standing committee of the Auckland Provincial Patriotic Council last night. The Mayor, Mr. J. A. C. A Hum, remarked that if the suggestion were adopted it would create an impossible situation. The Mayor of Te Aroha had sent a circular to every local authority in the Dominion urging that the Government be asked to permit one local appeal for funds to be controlled locally, said the secretary, Mr. K. L. Usmar, who added that the proposal would strike at the roots of the patriotic organisation. He had advised the national council secretary, who was preparing a circular in reply. Mr. H. A. Anderson, Mayor of Mount Albert, pointed out that the people at Te Aroha had evidently overlooked the fact that their proposals were already provided for in the present constitution of the provincial council, which included rehabilitation as part of its work. It was decided to advise the Mayor of Te Aroha of the committee's views. -
