PERSONAL EFFECTS

LOSSES BY SOLDIERS Assistance is being given to New Zealand soldiers in Egypt, from the National Patriotic Fund, for the replacement of private personal effects lost in Greece and Crete, according to information obtained by the Mayor. Mr. J. A. C. Allum. He said that he had been assured that the National Patriotic Fund Overseas Commissioner, Major F. Waite, D.5.0.. now in Egypt, had £10,000 available to assist soldiers in replacing lost private kit, and a further £5000 had been remitted to him by the National Patriotic Fund Board. The question of prisoners of war was in the hands of the International Red Cross, which operated under clearly defined rules.
