PLUNKET SOCIETY
FURTHER WAR WORK MOTHERCRAFT COTTAGE PROI'.IiKM The question of the committee undertaking a definite piece of war work to relieve distress in Britain was further discussed at the monthly meeting of the committee of the Plunket Society. The president, Mrs. ,1. C. Allan, presided. I'ntil a decision was reached as to the best method of helping, members were asked to contribute monthly at least two garments suitable for children up to two years of age. Reference was made to the accommodation of the mothercraft cottage at the Karitane Hospital, and regret was expressed that in spite of the committee's elforts to increase accommodation to the utmost to meet demands, it had been found that without a heavy outlay, which at this juncture was neither justified nor possible, accommodation had to be limited to seven mothers.
It was decided that the British Medical Association and the Obstetric Society be notified of the position, pointing out that until such time as it would be possible to make an appeal to the public for the erection of a modern mothercraft hospital, this number must be adhered to.
Miss H. Chapman, charge nurse, presented her report, and Miss S. Lusk, matron, presented the report of the Trubv King Karitane Hospital. It was stated that a donation of £2 10/ had been received from the Franklin branch of the hospital.
Further to the committee's decision to increase the district statf by two members, it had been agreed that Miss E. Foote and Miss It. Slatter be appointed to the stafU It was decided to hold a jumble sale next month, and later in the year a fair, to be held in the grounds of the Karitane Hospital.
