OTAHUHU HEADMASTER
MR. F. W. MARTIN RETIRES
I The retiring principal of the Otahiihu Technical High School, Mr. F. W. Martin, who completes 40 years' service with the Education Department to-morrow, was the guest of honour at a function tendered by scholars and parents in the Orpheus Theatre this afternoon. A large list of speakers included Mr. W. \V. Massey, Mr. C. R. Petrie, M.P., and Mr. W. J. Campbell, chairman of the Auckland Education Board. Eulogistic references were made to the splendid services rendered by Mr. Martin in the interests of education, and also to his keen interest in the physical welfare of scholars. Two senior pupils of the school presented a fireside chair and a crystal water service to Mr. Martin. Mr. Martin responded. Born at Hastings, Mr. Martin graduated M.A. ana B.Sc. at Victoria University College, Wellington. He entered the teaching service at Hawke's Bay and completed about ten years' service under the Hawke's Bay and Wanganui Education Boards. Over 25 years ago he joined the staff of the Wellington Technical College when this form of school was first being formed. Later he was appointed principal of the Masterton Technical High School, a post which he held for nine years. In 1931 Mr. Martin was appointed first principal of the new Otahuhu Technical High School. Mr. Martin will be the guest of honour at a staff dinner to-morrow night.
