METHOD CHANGED
INSPECTION- OF SCHOOLS
BIENNIEL, NOT ANNUAL
To overcome alleged weaknesses in the present system of inspecting and grading school teachers, it has been decided by the Education Department to substitute biennial inspection visits and biennial inspection reports for annual visits and reports. Provision will be made«for the furnishing of any special report after any visit should this be deemed necessary. This decision was announced at yesterday's meeting of the Auckland Education Board. Amended regulations to give effect to the new proposals will be issued in the near future. present regulations provide for an annual inspection visit and the writing of an annual report on each school. It ,was thought that the carrying out of these duties in respect of every, school and every teacher not only prevented the most effective use being made of the inspectors' time, but also restricted their activities, many aspects of education with which inspectors should be concerned having to remain untouched.. .:;■../ , i I
