MISCHIEF CHARGE
COOK SENT TO GAOL
DAMAGE TO CASH KEGISTKR
Charges of behaving in a disorderly manner while drunk in Karangahape Road and of wilfully damaging a cash register valued at £48 thereby committing mischief, were admitted by Harold James Williams cook and labourer, aged 69, when he appeared before Mr. F. K. Hunt, S.M., in the Police Court this morning. It was stated by Sub-Inspector Pender that Williams . went into a Newton restaurant at 5.40 yesterday afternoon for a meal. Some of the patrons objected to his behaviour with the result that the manager requested Williams to leave. Williams, however, was allowed to have his meal. He again became objectionable, and was asked to leave the restaurant. He went outside and after yelling and kicking at the plate glass window, he re-entered the restaurant, picked up the cash register from the counter and threw it on the floor, damaging the machine to the extent of £15.
On the first charge Williams was convicted and discharged, but on the second the magistrate sentenced him to one month's imprisonment.
