CONFER WITH FRENCH
BRITISH MISSION FOR HANOI.
SHANGHAI, April 13.
The Domei agency declared to-dav that a. party of British naval officers from Singapore was en route to Hanoi to confer with the French colonial authorities. Ihe impending conference was attracting sharp attention from Japanese officials in Hanoi, it was added.
Japanese in Hanoi believed the British party's mission was to investigate Japanese military activities in IndoChina and hinder the progress of economic conferences between Japan and Indo-China in Tokyo by offering favourable trade to Indo-China from British colonies.
French consular authorities d»nv a Domei agency report that the British seized the French steamer D'Artagnan (1.5,000 tons), operating between Shanghai, Manila and Saigon. They say the ship is undergoing repairs and will resume her schedule shortlv.
