NEW RATE PLAN.
PRIME MINISTER'S. HINT. (By Telegraph.—Parliamentary Reporter.) WELLINGTON", this day. A hint was given by the Prime Minister, Mr. Fraser, in the llor.se of Representatives yesterday that the Government might examine a plan whereby State tenants would pay rates separately in order to give them responsibility and the vote. He said that if an adjustment were made through the State Advances Department requiring tenants to pay rates they could have the vote to-morrow, both i'l rcspevt to personnel of councils and 'nan proposals.
Mr. Fraser said that this had been done in other parts of the world and if adopted here might be the best method. "It is worth looking at," he added. "An anomalous position is now created through State tenants paying rates through their rents."
