LOCAL BODIES.

PAPAKURA COUNCIL. The fortnightly meeting of the Papakura Borough Council was held last evening, the Mayor, Mr. S. Evans, presiding. Park For Footballers.—An application for the use of Prince Edward Park for the forthcoming season was received from the Papakura Rugby League Club and was granted at a rental of £10, plus the cost of lighting which, the Mayor said, might in future be allowed for practice if the lights were sufficiently shrouded. Catholic Cemetery Neglected.—A complaint was received concerning the neglected state of the Catholic portion of the cemetery. The foreman, Mr. M. Finn, said the sexton had more work than he could cope with, which also included the Courthouse grounds and Soldiers' Memorial. It was decided to put an extra man on for a week to tidy up the place. Band For Anzac Day.—Owing to the Papakura Military Camp Band not being available for the borough's ceremony on Anzac Day, it was decided to make fresh inquiries for a suitable band. Camp Road Maintenance.—The No. 2 District Highways Council advised that the borough would be charged an annual sum of £22 for the maintenance of their portion of the recently tar-sealed road to the camp. The council accepted the liability. Unsanitary Drain.—The health inspector requested the; council to take action with regard to a storm water drain in Wood Street, which was In an unsanitary condition, owing to blockage in overgrowth. The people, whose property the drain runs through, are to be advised Immediately to clean the drain. The Blackout.—in view of the blackout conditions prevailing in Papakura. the council decided to paint In white all kerbing at the principal street Intersections. An Untidy Borough.—Complaint was made by Mr. D. J. Graham that many parts of the town were very untidy. After discussion. It was decided to give the foreman authority to engage two casual men for a month to give the place a good clean
